Meet your doctor

Dr William Paterson

Choosing a GP is a personal decision.

If you're reading this, there's a good chance you're looking for a doctor you can trust—not just for today's concern, but for the years ahead.

Finding the right GP is about more than qualifications or experience. It's about finding someone who listens, explains things clearly and genuinely cares about helping you achieve the best possible health outcomes.

That's the kind of doctor I strive to be.

What you can expect

My first priority is to listen.

Every patient has a story. Some people arrive with questions they've been thinking about for weeks. Others feel worried, frustrated or unsure where to begin.

Whatever brings you to see me, I want to understand the person sitting in front of me—their health, family, work and the things that matter most to them.

I'll do my best to explain things in plain language, answer your questions honestly and involve you in decisions about your healthcare.

My hope is that you leave each appointment feeling heard, informed and confident about what comes next.

My journey

Why I chose medicine

People are often surprised to learn that medicine wasn't my first career.

Before studying medicine, I spent around five years working as a mining engineer.

That experience taught me resilience, teamwork, clear communication and the importance of looking after the people around you.

Over time, I realised I wanted a career where I could build lasting relationships, solve problems that genuinely mattered and make a meaningful difference in people's lives.

Changing careers to study medicine was one of the biggest decisions I've ever made—and one I have never regretted.

Areas of care

How I can help

General practice is diverse, and no two patients are the same. These are some of the areas of healthcare I particularly enjoy.

Children's Health

I enjoy caring for children as they grow, from newborn babies through to teenagers.

Men's Health

Many men put their own health last. My aim is to make appointments straightforward and practical.

Mental Health

Your mental health deserves the same care and attention as your physical health.

Chronic Disease Management

Living with a long-term medical condition can feel overwhelming. I work with patients to create realistic long-term plans.

Iron Infusions

I provide iron infusions for suitable patients with careful explanation and follow-up.

Aclasta Infusions

I also provide Aclasta infusions for suitable patients.

Why I love general practice

One of the greatest privileges of being a GP is being invited into people's lives, often for many years.

I might first meet someone as a young adult, care for them as they start a family and continue looking after them as they grow older.

To me, general practice is about building trust and helping people live healthier lives—not just today, but for years to come.

Outside the clinic

A little about me

Outside medicine, my favourite time is spent with my family.

I also enjoy technology, problem-solving and continuously looking for ways to improve healthcare.

Helping create Eagleby Doctors has been especially meaningful because it gives us the opportunity to build the kind of practice we'd want for our own families.

Common questions

Questions you may be wondering

It’s normal to have questions before seeing a new doctor.

Will I have enough time to discuss everything?

If you have several concerns, please let me know at the beginning of the consultation.

I haven't been to a doctor in years. Is that a problem?

Not at all. My role isn't to judge you—it's to help you move forward.

What if I feel nervous?

Many people feel anxious about seeing a doctor. My aim is to make consultations calm and comfortable.

What if I don't understand something?

Please ask me to explain it again. I want you to leave understanding your health.
